Chapter 5: Storage - Protecting Your Stored Items
|
Here are some tips on how to protect the items you are storing:
Furniture: It is good idea to place plastic cover or blankets between the furniture and on the floor of your storage unit. Some storages sell tarps and plastic covers for your convenience, however it is better to have it ready before move-in day.
Small Items: The best way to store your small and medium size items is to put everything in boxes. You can use carton or plastic boxes of different sizes for your clothes, kitchen staff, tools or any other items.
Rugs: Have your rugs and draperies cleaned and store them wrapped as they are returned from the cleaners.
Itemization: Keep a list of your items in storage. Remember to include all items on your list, with a description of each item.
Storage Walls: It is good to leave some air space between the goods stored and the storage unit walls.
Dust: Protect your large items from dust buildup. Cover your mattresses, sofas, and chairs with a light plastic cover.
Rust: When storing your bikes and tools use rust protector.
Moisture: Moisture will cause damage to your refrigerator and freezer, make sure they are dry and clean. Lock: Use a good lock on your storage unit door. You can usually buy it from the storage personnel.
